Introduction of lcd1602 LCD

LCD1602 LCD is a widely used character type liquid crystal display module. It is composed of a character type liquid crystal display (LCD), a control driver main circuit HD44780 and its extended driver circuit HD44100, as well as a small number of resistors, capacitive components and structural parts assembled on a PCB board. Different manufacturers may produce different LCD1602 chip, but the use of the method is the same. In order to reduce costs, the vast majority of manufacturers are directly to the bare die to the board.

  LCD1602 form factor

The LCD1602 character LCD physical shape is shown in the figure.

LCD1602 is divided into two kinds with backlight and without backlight, its controller is mostly HD44780. with backlight than without backlight thick, whether with backlight in the practical application does not make a difference, the specific identification method can refer to the device size schematic shown in Figure 2.

lcd1602 pin function

LCD1602 uses a standard 14-pin (without backlight) or 16-pin (with backlight) interface, the pin interface description is shown in Table 1.

The function of each pin is described below.

-Pin 1: VSS for ground power.

-Pin 2: VDD is connected to 5V positive power supply.

-Pin 3: VL is the LCD contrast adjustment terminal, the contrast is weakest when connected to the positive power supply, the highest contrast when grounded, the contrast is too high will produce the phenomenon of “ghost image”, when using a 10kQ potentiometer to adjust its contrast.

-Pin 4: RS is the register selector pin, which selects the data register when it is high and the command register when it is low.

-Pin 5: R/W is the read/write signal line, read operation is performed when it is high and write operation is performed when it is low. When RS and R/W are low together, the command or display address can be written; when RS is low and R/W is high, the busy signal can be read; when RS is high and R/W is low, the data can be written.

-Pin 6: E terminal is the enable terminal, when E terminal jumps from high to low, LCD module executes the command.

  -Pins 7~14: D0~D7 are 8-bit bi-directional data lines.

  -Pin 15: Backlight positive.

  -Pin 16: Backlight negative.
