How should the pixels and resolution be distinguished?

With the widespread use of monitoring projects, nowadays the related advertising is more and more exaggerated, so that I believe many friends have encountered a variety of fault-finding customers. For example, the requirement of 4K ultra-clear monitor and splicing screen, 1080P resolution monitoring screen and so on.

But in fact, many times, some customers themselves can not distinguish what is 4K ultra-HD? What is 1080P and how should pixels and resolution be distinguished?

First of all, let’s understand pixels and resolution. A pixel is a unit, a basic unit that makes up a picture, and when we say how many pixels, we mean how many basic units of pixels there are in the picture.

And resolution, in layman’s terms, is the width * height of a screen in pixels.

So the pixel is the product value of the resolution, such as 1920 * 1080 is 200W pixels.

How to distinguish between 720P and 1080P?

The two numbers belong to the resolution, and the P after it is the abbreviation of English Progressive, the meaning of progressive scan. 4K after the K, is the meaning of a thousand, indicating that the horizontal resolution is about 4000 pixels.

Above we said that the resolution is the width * height of a pixel, so progressive scan represents the height of that as well, then.

720P is 1280*720, which is what we usually call high definition or HD.
1080P is 1920*1080, which is what we usually call Full HD or FHD.
4K is 3840*2460, which is what we usually call QFHD or Ultra HD.

There is a difference between their display quality

To illustrate with a very simple everyday example: I believe that the vast majority of people have seen the resolution of something like DVD, the resolution of DVD is similar to satellite TV, while the resolution of cable TV is only about one-third of satellite TV.

Using DVD as the standard, 720P resolution shows a clarity that is roughly four times that of DVD, while 1080P is four times that of 720P and 4K is four times that of 1080P.

4 times the clarity of the DVD can already be seen clearly, not to mention that on top of this about 16 times the clarity of the 4K Ultra HD picture, said to be able to see the details of a hair, is not too much.

But in fact, in actual life and engineering, the need to use 4K ultra-clear time is not much or can even say very little, especially in security projects, or need to try to consider cost-effective, taking into account the cost of the problem.

To sum up a sentence is: can be installed, but not necessary.
