Seven common problems that affect connector performance

Connector performance is affected by the very common phenomenon, most of which is due to improper operation or application environment caused by poor connector performance or failure problems. This article mainly shares seven common problems that affect the performance of the connector!
Full pcb manufacturing

1, the sudden acceleration and shock load will lead to connector disengagement or may lead to temporary separation of the contact interface, thereby interrupting the signal.

2, if the connector contacts are not hard enough, vibration can lead to intermittent contact and micro-motion corrosion of the connector contact interface. If the amplitude is large enough, vibration can also lead to connector loosening or WAN completely detached.

3, the connector’s application environment is too hot may also lead to performance is affected. For example, at high temperatures, the connector’s metal contacts may lose strength and ductility, stress relaxation may occur, and plastic parts may creep or deform. On the other hand, connectors can make materials brittle in low temperature environments. There is also the fact that the different thermal expansion rates between connector components may cause stress or damage to the seal, which may allow any corrosive gases or liquids in the environment to erode the contact interface or other connector components.

4, Dust and other corrosive factors can promote wear of the connector plating and can accumulate at the contact interface, interfering with the electrical path and possibly leading to open circuit conditions.

5, ammonia (stress corrosion cracking), sulfur-containing compounds (sulfide stress cracking), chlorine-containing compounds (stress corrosion cracking) and other corrosive factors can corrode copper-based alloys used in connector contacts and steel or housings, as well as plastics used in steel or housings.

6, a large number of connector mating cycle can lead to wear of the plating, if the connector misalignment when mating, can cause permanent contact group, if the strain is high enough, and even lead to connector contact force becomes low.

7, water usually contains dissolved salt, which will accelerate most forms of corrosion. If the connector is not well sealed, it will be affected by corrosion factors that cause the connector to dissolve in water.
