HDMI interface knowledge literacy: the importance of understanding HDMI at once

The HDMI interface is currently marked on many LCD TVs, laptops and desktop computers, so many friends do not understand what HDMI means, what is the use of HDMI? Today, the HDMI interface knowledge literacy for everyone.

What does HDMI mean?

HDMI is a digital video/audio interface technology, which is a dedicated digital interface suitable for video transmission. It can transmit audio and video signals simultaneously with a maximum data transmission speed of 18Gbps, while eliminating the need for digital/analog or analog/digital conversion before signal transmission.

Simply put, the HDMI interface is an interface used to transmit video and sound signals, and content creation devices can transmit video and sound to viewing devices with great efficiency through HDMI. This type of interface is more common in devices such as smart TVs, set-top boxes, and projectors, and its interface is inverted trapezoidal and more flat, as shown in the figure below.

What is the use of HDMI interface

HDMI mainly meets the demand for high-definition video above 1080P, such as the motherboard or graphics card equipped with HDMI interface, indicating that the computer equipped with the motherboard or graphics card supports 1080P video output, we can support 1080P resolution monitor, LCD TV or HD player to play 1080P full HD video.

Today’s mainstream LCD TVs are generally equipped with HDMI high-definition interfaces, which can be used to connect to HD players supporting 1080P full HD video through HDMI data cables to achieve a large-screen 1080P ultra-HD video experience.

HDMI interface misconceptions

HDMI interface can not transmit audio

Many people believe that HDMI is only a video interface that only supports image signal transmission and does not support audio signals. Generally we connect the computer to the LCD TV through the HDMI cable, we will find that the TV does not have sound, and need to add an additional audio cable.

But the fact that the HDMI port is connected to support the transmission of sound, but most computers are independent of each other, the audio and video signals are output separately, thus leading many friends mistakenly believe that the HDMI interface does not support audio.

Mainstream HDMI application interface models

The current application of more HDMI interface models are mainly HDMI 1.4, HDMI 2.0, HDMI 2.0a and HDMI 2.0b.

HDMI 1.4

HDMI 1.4 version can already support 4K, but due to the bandwidth of 10.2Gbps, the maximum resolution can only reach 3840×2160 and 30FPS frame rate.

HDMI 2.0

HDMI 2.0 expands the bandwidth to 18Gbps, supports plug-and-play and hot-swapping, and supports 3840×2160 resolution and 50FPS, 60FPS frame rates. HDMI 2.0 does not define new data cables and connectors, interfaces, and therefore maintains perfect backwards compatibility with HDMI 1.x. Existing Type II data cables can be used directly. HDMI 2.0 does not replace HDMI 1.x, but is based on the latter’s enhancements, and any device that wants to support HDMI 2.0 must first ensure basic support for HDMI 1.x.

HDMI 2.0a

HDMI 2.0a does not change much, it has only one major update, and that is the addition of support for HDR format transmission, which can significantly enhance image quality.

HDMI 2.0b

HDMI 2.0b is compatible with all previous versions of HDMI specifications and is not too different from HDMI 2.0a, HDMI 2.0b is also the latest version of HDMI so far. The official HDMI information is that 2.0b is the latest version of the current interface.

Introduced here, I believe that we will have an in-depth understanding of what HDMI is and the HDMI interface, HDMI interface is now widely available on stage computers, notebooks, LCD TVs and other devices, we are also very common, we just need to understand that HDMI is a high-definition video interface, compared to the traditional VGA interface more mainstream, support 1080P full HD video transmission. Back to today’s topic, HD players to dual HDMI output what are the benefits?

The advantages of dual HDMI output

Dual HDMI output actually has the following three advantages.

》》》1

Some old amplifiers are no HDMI input, if the player has two HDMI interfaces, you can use the HDMI port to connect the projection or TV, and then through the optical or coaxial input to the old amplifier for decoding.

》》》2

Some amplifiers have next generation decoding, but not with 3D or 4K, if the player has two HDMI ports, then you can use 1 port into the projection or TV, and 2 ports into the amplifier to realize separate video and audio output.

》 》3

Dual HDMI output, separate image and audio, you can get better picture and sound quality
