Infineon launches NAC1080, a single-chip solution with integrated half-bridge driver IC for NFC passive lock and other applications

(Munich, Germany, July 22, 2022) – The global smart lock market is expected to reach $1.38 billion in 2020, with a market demand of 8.9 million units. The market demand for smart locks is expected to grow rapidly at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.4% from 2021 to 2028.1 By integrating a half-bridge driver IC and an energy harvesting module, smart actuation terminals can be built with a single-chip solution and require a small number of components. Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) has developed a 32-bit programmable microcontroller (MCU) based on the ARM® Cortex®-M0 core with a built-in NFC wireless communication module that enables customers to cost-effectively develop smart actuation terminals, such as passive locks.

Infineon – Battery-free smart lock solutions

The NAC1080 MCU with NFC interface allows direct control of the device via smartphone. The advanced local and cloud-based features can be extended in mobile applications provided by regional marketing partners. This helps customers reduce BOM costs and supports smaller product designs. the NAC1080 supports different modes of operation, both in passive mode using the phone for power via NFC functionality and in active mode via battery. the NAC1080 also integrates an AES128 gas pedal and a true random number generator, enabling encryption and decryption of data, while enabling ultra-low power consumption. while achieving ultra-low power consumption.

NAC1080

In addition to being used in NFC passive locks, the NAC1080 can also be used as an emergency backup power source. For example, when a battery-powered active lock system suddenly runs out of power, the NFC interface IC of the electronic device can be used to charge the lock.

In the Greater China region, Infineon is working with Inho Technologies and Fuzhou IoT Open Lab to provide a complete NFC smart lock solution based on the NAC1080. The scope of the cooperation covers IC products, application development, IoT device testing, certification and standardization. With this cooperation project, the three companies will be able to support local customers to shorten the system development cycle and jointly promote the ecosystem.
