Participant Research Support and Stipend

On the BEEAM application, applicants will rank the participating MIT research laboratories; rank 1 being the resaerch lab of most interest to the applicant to rank 5.

Each BEEAM intern will be required to perform supervised research in a biological, mechanical, or chemical engineering laboratory at MIT.
Additionally, several professional development and educational activities will be scheduled during each term.

  • Summer Term - 10 weeks long
    • June 24 - August 30, 2019
    • Earn stipend up to $3,600
    • Monday - Friday
    • Approx. 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM*
    • total education and research commitment: 30 hours per week
       
  • Fall Term - 10 weeks long
    • October 14 - December 11, 2019*
    • Earn a stipend up to $1,400**
    • MBTA unlimited montly T-pass (assist with commuting)
    • Arrive after school, approx. 3:00 - 5:00 PM*
    • Preselected days, Monday - Friday
    • total education and research commitment: 8 - 12 hours per week*

During the Fall term, BEEAM interns, who are high school seniors, will recieve additional support to offset some of the associated costs with college application fees.

  • Spring Term - 16 weeks long
    • January 6 - May 8, 2020*
    • Earn a stipend  up to $2,300**
    • MBTA unlimited montly T-pass (assist with commuting)
    • Arrive after school, approx. 3:00 - 5:00 PM*
    • Preselectd days Monday - Friday
    • total education and research commitment: 8 - 12 hours per week*

 

*Prior to the beginning of the Summer, Fall, and Sping terms, the BEEAM intern, the intern's parents/guardians, BEEAM mentors, and the BEEAM administration will agree upon the start and end date of the internship and the weekly education and research commitment schedule. 

*The start and end date of the Fall and Spring terms are subject to change in accordance with the high school academic calendar, MIT's academic calendar, holidays, closures due to weather, etc.

**The amount of the stipend is directly proportional to the weekly education and research commitment.
